A Prayer for God’s Protection in an Unsafe World

A Prayer for God’s Protection in an Unsafe World

Prayer

Use this prayer when the world feels unsafe—because of news, violence, war, accidents, or private fears—and you long to rest in God’s protection over your life and those you love.

A Prayer for God’s Protection

Most High God,
You are my refuge and my fortress,
my God, in whom I trust.
You see every danger I see,
and every danger I do not see.

Lord, I confess that sometimes this world feels unsafe.
Headlines of war, crime, and disaster,
stories of sudden loss and unexpected tragedy,
stir up fear in my heart.
I think about my own life, my family, my friends,
and I feel how fragile we are.

In those moments, draw me back under the shadow of Your wings.
Teach me to dwell in the secret place of the Most High,
not by escaping reality,
but by remembering that You are nearer than every threat.
You neither slumber nor sleep.
You watch my coming in and my going out,
from this time forth and forevermore.

I ask for Your protection today.
Guard my body, my mind, and my spirit.
Protect my home, my workplace, my travels,
and the paths of those I love.
Set Your angels around us as You have promised,
not as a superstition,
but as a sign of Your faithful care.

Where I have placed my trust in locks, plans, strength, or statistics alone,
forgive me.
These things have their place,
but they cannot replace You.
Help me to do what is wise and responsible,
and then to rest in what only You can do.

For those living in places of war, violence, or deep insecurity,
stretch out Your hand.
Be a shield around them,
their glory and the lifter of their heads.
Provide safe places, safe people, and safe paths.
Let Your church become a refuge for the vulnerable,
a light in dark streets and troubled lands.

Lord, protect me also from unseen dangers—
from temptation that would harm my soul,
from bitterness that would harden my heart,
from lies that would pull me away from You.
Keep me close,
even when I am tempted to wander in fear or self‑reliance.

When I cannot understand why some prayers for protection seem unanswered,
hold me in that mystery.
Help me to trust that even in suffering and loss,
You have not abandoned Your people,
and that death itself cannot separate us from Your love in Christ.

Today I choose to entrust myself and those I love into Your hands.
Guide my steps.
Guard my nights.
Be the shield around my life—
not so that I can live in selfish comfort,
but so that I can live boldly,
loving and serving You without being paralyzed by fear.

You are my keeper.
You are the strong tower to which I run.
You are the One who holds my life when I feel exposed and small.

I place myself under Your care again,
in the name of Jesus,
my Savior, my Shepherd, and my peace.
Amen.
